CEBiz provides

Substantive research that identifies how information and communication technologies have an impact on business
Valuable interaction and knowledge sharing between member companies and the Columbia Business School faculty
Access to data that enable faculty members and students to build theories and test hypotheses for improved business practices
Grants for research assistantships and other faculty support

CEBiz initiatives include technology- and Internet-related student activities; online research panels for use by faculty members, students and affiliates of Columbia Business School; and biannual workshops.

Research areas of interest to CEBiz include, among others,

The perception of privacy and security and the impact of this perception on e-businesses
Studies indicate that a major factor suppressing more widespread adoption of e-commerce, both by consumers and businesses, is concern about security and privacy; yet the determinants of such feelings and concerns remain unclear.
Measuring the value of electronic customers
Information technology provides a wealth of data about current and potential customers. Can these and other tools reliably indicate which accounts to acquire and retain?
Marketing techniques enabled by new developments in information technology
Which of the hyped techniques of the e-commerce bubble produce real value for customers and firms? Under what conditions does customization pay? And can recommendations truly improve sales?
The exploration of online consumer and financial behavior
A particularly underresearched area is individual investor decisions and how they are influenced by the Web: How many stores do customers visit before buying? Does Web behavior influence offline sales?
The international impact of e-business
Because future growth in electronic business will come largely from outside North America — and especially from China and elsewhere in Asia — CEBiz research includes a significant focus on areas around the world.
